SPOUSE OF A CITIZEN OF MAURITIUS
Any non citizen, civilly married to a citizen of Mauritius shall have the status of a resident by virtue of Section 5(1)(c) of the Immigration Act
Application for a Residence permit as spouse of a citizen of Mauritius
- Both husband and wife should call personally at this office for submission of application and collection of residence permit.
Male Spouse
- Application form to enter Mauritius to be filled and signed by applicant.
- Birth certificate and National Identity Card of wife who should be a citizen of Mauritius and who has not lost or renounced her Mauritius Citizenship.
- Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant + dependent/s (where applicable).
- Full birth certificate of applicant duly legalized/ authenticated by competent authority(Ministry of Home/Foreign/External Affairs)/ bears the seal of “Apostille” of the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 by the respective country of birth (where applicable).
- Civil marriage certificate (in case marriage was celebrated outside Mauritius, the Marriage certificate should be legalized/ authenticated by competent authority(Ministry of Home/Foreign/External Affairs)/ bears the seal of “Apostille” of the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 by the respective country where civil marriage has been celebrated (where applicable).
- Divorce decree (Court Judgment) of both parties (where applicable).
- Death certificate of ex-spouse + previous marriage certificate (where applicable).
- Recent certificate of character/ casier judiciaire / police clearance certificate / certificate of previous convictions (less than six months as from date of issue) which should bear all the names and forenames of the applicant as per his birth certificate issued by the competent authority in country of origin and residence.
- Letter from citizen of Mauritius (wife) who should state in writing whether she supports the application and also whether she has/ has not lost or renounced her Mauritius Citizenship. If she has acquired any foreign nationality, certificate of foreign nationality to be produced.
- Photocopy of the data pages of his valid passport + dependent/s (where applicable).
- Full birth certificate of child/ children. If born abroad, certificate/s should be duly legalized/ authenticated by competent authority(Ministry of Home/Foreign/External Affairs)/ bear the seal of “Apostille” of the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 by the respective country of birth (where applicable).
- Documentary evidence of latest financial means for the upkeep of oneself and that of his family (a recent personal or joint bank statement from a bank in Mauritius or payslip from Mauritius for the last three months).
- Any other documents required by the Immigration Officer.
Note:
- Application should be made on the prescribed form “Application to Enter Mauritius” which is available at the Passport and Immigration Office.
- All the above mentioned documents (official translation is required if not in English or French) should be submitted in original and two (2) copies for consideration (original will be returned after verification except the casier judiciaire/ certificate of character/ police clearance certificate/ certificate of previous convictions where the original will be kept at the office).
- The surname(s), other name(s), date of birth and gender of applicant should be similar in all documents submitted.

Female Spouse
