Student Visa

The following categories of persons eligible for student visa

  1. A non-citizen enrolled on one or more programmes in a recognized tertiary educational institution or Technical and Vocational Educational and Training(TVET) institution to follow on a full-time basis specific modules for one semester or two, a course leading to a certificate or diploma for a duration of at least one academic year,
  2. A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time degree course at under-graduate level.
  3. A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time course at post graduate levels (including Masters, MPhil or Doctoral level).
  4. A non-citizen carrying out post Doctoral research.
  5. A non-citizen coming to Mauritius on an exchange programme not exceeding one year with a recognized tertiary educational institution.

Application for student Visa should be made to the Passport and Immigration Office by the respective tertiary educational institution or TVET institution where the student is enrolled.

Documents to be submitted for Student Visa:

  • Form “Application to Enter Mauritius” duly filled in, dated and signed by the applicant;
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant;
  • Photocopy of the bio-data pages of the passport of the applicant beyond period of stay;
  • Letter of admission in a recognized educational establishment or TVET institution;
  • Letter of offer from institution;
  • Letter of acceptance from student;
  • A duly signed and sealed covering letter from a recognized educational establishment or TVET institution, with details of duration of course and start date;
  • Details of duration of the course and confirmation from the Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority that the chosen course is a full time or part time;
  • Accreditation of programme letter from Higher Education Commission (HEC) or Mauritius Qualification Authority(MQA);
  • Documentary evidence of availability of funds or financial capacity to meet costs of study and stay in Mauritius(A recent bank statement for a period of last 6 months, letter of sponsorship from parents or guardian, copy of ID or passport of parents or guardian);
  • Accommodation letter (proof of address in Mauritius and Copy of ID of tenant);
  • A medical certificate certifying that the applicant is not suffering from any contagious or infectious disease. A test for HIV, Hepatitis B, a Chest X-ray carried out in his/her country of origin. Another medical certificate within one month as from date of arrival in Mauritius.

Original Documents to be submitted:

  • Covering letter from Institution stating reason and duration required for extension;
  • Application Form to Enter Mauritius¬† duly filled in, dated and signed by the applicant;
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant;
  • Photocopy of the bio-data pages of his/her passport valid beyond the period of stay;
  • Copy of Present Permit
  • List of modules completed and not yet completed by the applicant from the Institution;
  • The results of all modules completed;
  • A monthly attendance of the student during past 12 months;
  • Letter of sponsorship from parents or guardian;
  • Copy of ID or passport of parents;
  • Bank Statement of parents or guardian;
  • Accommodation letter (proof of address in Mauritius and Copy of ID of tenant);

Eligibility for Residence Permit to undergo practical training, industrial placement “stage” or internship in respect of foreigners.

  • A non-citizen intending to undergo practical training or industrial placement (“stage”) or internship with a view to enhancing his/her skills and experience should produce to the Passport and Immigration Office evidence of acceptance from relevant institution/enterprise in Mauritius.
  • He/She should be holder of a degree.
  • He/She should not be remunerated in Mauritius.

Original Documents to be submitted:

  • Covering letter from receiving organisation;
  • Letter from institution to confirm in case the trainee needs an extension;
  • A new Tripartite Agreement involving the trainee, the educational institution and the receiving organisation duly signed by all parties and sealed;
  • Bank Statement
  • Accommodation letter (proof of address in Mauritius and Copy of ID of tenant);

NOTE

  • Non-citizens travelling to Mauritius as tourists/visitors will not be issued any permit or extension of visas to follow studies/training courses.
  • Prospective students/trainees are allowed to travel to Mauritius only after their application for study/training in Mauritius would have been approved.
